Roman Castles

    Roman Castles

Lying in the famous Alban Hills are 13 picturesque towns that have been tourist destinations since the Roman Empire. You won't want to miss Frascati, dominated by the 16th-century Villa Aldobrandini, or Grottaferrata, where you can visit the Abbazia Greca di San Nilo, founded in 1004 by monks from Byzantine Calabria.

Then there's Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer retreat, and Nemi, where a must-see is the Roman Ship Museum, built in the 1930s to display the Roman ships discovered at the bottom of Lake Nemi.
